Homeshoring Jobs
Homeshoring jobs are predicted to become the hottest work at home money earners for 2008.
At last it seems that it is getting much easier for people to have a virtual career and make a full-time income working at home. Throughout 2007 people have been saying "working at home has never been easier" but all indications are that we "ain't seen nothing yet" and work at home will take off in a big way during 2008.
The reason for this sudden activity on the work at home front is that the awful trend for companies to outsource customer service jobs to foreign call centers is finally over. At least it is over for residents of the United States and Canada.
Over here in the UK, we still have the problem of having to deal with overseas call centers. From the customers' point of view it is extremely frustrating to be forced to deal over the phone with staff who can't speak English well enough to be properly understood. Personally, I feel sorry for the call center staff who are undoubtedly doing their best and probably suffer verbal abuse every working day but, even so, I have to bite my tongue in the struggle to remain civil in the face of deep frustration. Apart from the language difficulty, it is impossible to get to speak to anyone who is not working from a script and who might be in a position to offer real help and it seems that lesson #1 for call center staff is "never answer a direct question". I don't care how charming the call center rep might be, when they wriggle out of answering answering questions and skirt round the issues, I start seeing the red mist.
In the USA, the tide has turned and the previously outsourced jobs are being given back to United States citizens. At the moment in the UK the situation is getting worse. It seems as if every company in the country must have made a pact to use foreign call centers. That means their customers are unable to "vote with their feet" because there is nowhere left to go. UK companies (the giant British Telecom is one example) even employ foreign staff to deal with written enquiries and complaints. I can't begin to express (without sounding hysterical) how frustrating it is to receive communications from one of the country's biggest organisations which are written in pidgin English. It should be renamed Pidgin British Telecom!
So, people of the USA, I hope you know how lucky you are. You are escaping from the nightmare of foreign call centers and also being presented with excellent opportunities to find virtual work at home jobs.
