I firmly believe that "what goes around comes around", anyway how bad can it be to try to do something good for another person? If nothing else, you get to feel good about yourself. Meanness breeds meanness: if you act mean, you will become mean. If you spend your life holding back from helping people and being suspicious if they try to help you, you will end up bitter, cynical and lonely. Sure, you won't have risked being taken for a sucker by some unscrupulous person but you will have missed out on the chance of a mountain of friendship and help from the other type of people who are in the majority.
Do you believe in luck? I do. There are two ways to look at luck. One way is to feel that every time things are going smoothly for you, luck steps in and trips you up. The other way is to feel that anytime things seem hopeless, luck is there to lift you out of the problem. Some people also believe we "make our own luck" and this saying was around long before the idea of "karma" became popular.
Do we all have the same kind of luck but just different ways of looking at it, or are some people truly luckier than others? I won't pretend to know the answer to that one but, due to my personal life experiences, I think I am what would be termed a "lucky" person. This is not because I have won the lottery (actually, I don't think I have ever even won a raffle) or found an easy way to make a fortune or inherited great wealth or always had an easy problem-free time. My luck is far more mundane. It is simply that whenever I reach the place where a problem seems insurmountable, along comes luck with a ladder.
I came from a poor family. Luckily, I was able to win a scholarship and get a decent education, so I could get a good job without problems when I left school. I married and had children far too young. Luckily, I realised my mistake before I wasted my whole life with an abusive husband. I became a single parent. Luckily, I was able to go to university as a mature student, get a degree and get a job where I could support my children. I had to leave a well-paid job when my mother became too ill to look after herself. Luckily, I discovered I could work on the Internet when the only other option would have been to take very low paid boring work (employers don't give good jobs to the over 50's). There have been plenty of other things along the road but these are the main events so far.
When I look at all the crossroads in my life where things could have gone so differently (so much worse, in fact) it almost seems as if I did nothing, just wandered about having luck control my life. It wasn't quite like that, I did a bit of working and struggling and decision-making but I am very conscious of the fact that I was guided at each crossroads. Whether you want to call this luck or divine intervention, I leave to you. Whichever it is, it is sufficient to make me thankful and ready to share my good fortune.
The most recent piece of good fortune was stumbling across my Internet business and I love to share the experience but that's enough about that otherwise this is going to turn into an advertisement and that was not my intention. I'll share my experience, show people what I do and offer to help them become successful but I am not a sales person and never wanted be. I'll leave the door ajar but don't worry, I won't grab you and drag you in if you just want to peek inside.
