Choosing The Right Home Business
So, how to decide what business would suit you? Three vital
considerations are what your skills are, what you would enjoy
doing and whether there is a market for your product/service.
Put these three things together and you are ready to start
planning the start up of your business.
If you don't have a particular business in mind, a good way of
coming up with ideas is to have a brainstorming session with a
friend. Just bouncing ideas off each other encourages creative
thinking.
Before I started my online business, I had worked with my good
friend, Christina, for over ten years. At the end we were both
desperate to escape from our boring jobs. We were determined to find a
way to start our own business
but but neither of us had any
idea what sort of business might be possible. We just could
not bear the idea of wasting more precious years of our lives
putting money in somebody else's pockets. We wanted to be our own bosses.
We also needed
to find something with a low cost start up.
It was obvious that finding our home business niche was not going to be an easy matter.
One day we
decided to make a list of ideas for home based businesses which
could be started up with very little capital outlay. Being home
based, you avoid one major expense straight off: you don't have
to pay for buying or renting premises. This is our list:
Floral arrangement/plant service for offices, Multi-level-marketing
(mlm), dog walking service, child minding, gift basket service,
homemade soap maker, accountant, freelance writer, business
card and letterhead designer, courier, landscaping service, tree/hedge
trimming service, carpenter, pool cleaning service, plants/nursery
starts, growing herbs, photographyr, garage sale and swap
meet vendor, proofreading, private investigator, typing service,
interior decorator/designer, website design, wedding consultant,
pet sitting service, pet grooming service, Internet entrepreneur,
gourmet catering service, sandwich delivery service, window cleaner,
mobile cosmetic technician, mobile nail technician, mobile
hair stylist, aerobics instructor, personal fitness trainer,
advertising consultant, companion service, printing service,
Ebay auction vendor, scented candle maker, ironing service, oven
cleaning service, gravestone cleaner.
We also had a couple of other things which we crossed off
because they would require too much initial capital to buy a vehicle or
special tools etc. You will know why the visiting massage service
was crossed off if you have ever seen the way they appear in the classified
advertising section! A few of our ideas, like being a nail technician
or fitness trainer rely on you having previous training or being
willing to undertake training. A couple of other things would
need you to have some sort of artistic flair but we were just
jotting down everything which came to mind.
It is funny to look back now and recall that, within six months
of this brain storming session, I had found my Plug-in Profit Site
and was running my own business. My early profits might have
been laughably small but they meant a great deal to me as proof
that I could earn money working at home.
However, that was still in the future. Click here to read the next part of my story.
