As you are just starting out, I suggest planning for just the first year initially. Don't give yourself a vague goal such as "being successful". Make your goal to reach a certain level of income by a fixed date. Next you need to build in the interim goals. These can be things like targets for quarterly income levels. You also need to schedule dates for achieving other goals. For instance, if you are learning about building your own website, one of your goals might be to have a functioning affiliate marketing website online by the end of month one. Then you need to plan the days of the week; then the days, hour by hour. This is particularly important if you are only internet marketing part time. Don't omit the smallest detail. Even filing receipts takes time. Let's have a closer look at scheduling the small details. We can use the example of having your own affiliate marketing website online within a month as the end goal. What do you need to do to achieve this goal? Some examples of things you need to do are: decide upon your marketing niche, find appropriate affiliate programs, decide upon a website or blog design, purchase a domain name, arrange for website hosting, get an autoresponder service organised, prepare content for your website. Each of the items in the above example is straightforward to do – that is they are all straightforward if you are not trying to do them for the first time. As a beginner at internet marketing you are bound to find it hard to locate resources and make choices. Don't worry, you will pick up speed. For your first time, you need to block out all distractions. Don't check your email or browse for other resources until you have completed your scheduled tasks for the day. Focus on each step, complete it and move on to the next one. A big part of your working day will need to be devoted to learning the business of internet marketing. Pick an internet marketing training course and study it from start to finish. Schedule in set times to do tutorials. Don't try to rush the learning process. If something causes you a problem, go back and revisit that part of the course. Don't switch courses because something new catches your eye. You need to be consistent if you are going to succeed at internet marketing. This is a good time to practice being consistent. Don't try to rush things. There is no point in trying to run before you can even take baby steps. If you can't reach your goal of having your first website up within a month, the world won't end. It feels good when you achieve your goal, but few people have 100% success. If you miss a goal, don't lose heart and give up. Set a new goal, be patient and persevere.
